An early start and out to the Domestic terminal by 5.30am. The weather gods were on our side. We arrived into Lukla at 7.10am. An emotional reunion with Ngima who I haven't seen since the passing of her beloved Mingma. Ngima, along with two others will porter for me on this journey to Base Camp. Never, never underestimate the power of a Nepalese woman. They breed them tough in the mountains. Glorious sunshine as we made our way to our first stop, Tok Tok. I know all too well that as soon as that glorious sunshine diminishes for the day the icy mountain air drops to below zero very quickly. Hoping for a good sleep tonight as tomorrow is the first of one of our big climbs up into Namche Bazaar. |

We have finalised our gear and equipment and are now hoping for a good day tomorrow.
Beautiful sky this morning, but clouding up now..!!!!! The team have taken a liking to Dhal Bhat. Vickie. Now I’m not wanting to send any alarm bells out, but some of Matt’s actions lead me to think that treking to Base Camp may be the start of bigger things.! After yesterday’s drama of missing out on arriving into Kat, today’s 2nd attempt was largely uneventful. We landed around 12.15pm, made our way to Kathmandu Guest House, dumped our bags and walked to Durbar Square, one of my favourite sites in Kat. Then back to meet our trek guide Prakash, and shout him a dinner. Great first day in Kat.
Tomorrow morning, we will purchase and hire our gear, do a bit more sightseeing and complete our packing for an early Monday morning departure to Lukla. Well that’s the plan anyway. BANGKOK!!!!!
😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢 Guess where we should be?? KATHMANDU!!! We departed Bangkok for Kathmandu this morning in beaut weather, ran into cloud approaching Nepal, circled for 50min awaiting an opening, approached Kat airport (in heavy cloud), literally got to 300 feet from the runway (we could see streets, traffic and people, before the Captain aborted the landing and informed us that deteriorating weather meant we had no choice but to return to Bangkok!!!! Over 7 hrs in the air today...for no gain..!!! Thai have arranged accommodation and food for us tonight and we are awaiting an update on what time we will fly out of Kat again tomorrow. Team are disappointed, but not too distressed. We all agree that if the Captain thinks it's too dangerous to land, then we're happy with that, right? "It's an Adventure, not a holiday" Melbourne Airport about to depart on TG 466 to Bangkok. Thinking the Business class travellers may have abandoned us other cattle class passengers for the comforts of a lounge with free food and drinks.............It's still early!!!
