I love Nepal.
I first visited the country back in 1987 with good friends Peter and Rick. We didn't quite reach Everest Base Camp that trip due to altitude sickness as a result of not understanding the importance of sufficient rest and acclimatisation days.
This first visit was a truly incredible experience. I was hooked.
I returned in 1997 with another mate Brian, and this time stood on top of Kalar Pattar. Brian has since been a regular return visitor to the country.
I took my son Jeff in 2007 and he too stood on top of Kalar Pattar overlooking Base Camp. Jeff loved the country and aims to return their one day.
In 2011 I took my wife Suzi to experience the country and the lower Everest region. Suzi loved the visit, the country and the people.
In 2012 I began what would be the first of several yearly organised and lead group trips to Nepal. Group numbers would range from 7 to 13 and would include people from all over Australia. It was incredibly satisfying to introduce so many people to Nepal, more so hearing from them how much they enjoyed their experience.
The country does this to you. From the magnificent scenery of the mighty Himalaya, to the incredible experience of Kathmandu, to the wonderful Nepalese people. Their existence lacks much of what we take for granted, yet their smiles and their outlook on life is infectious.
I have totally enjoyed introducing people to Nepal, and have equally gained a terrific satisfaction in watching them fall under the spell of this unique land and its people.
Nepal took hold of me in 1987. I still remain in its grip.
