Thursday 20th Feb. A tough Rest Day

PictureThe team at Everest View Hotel, 3800mts
It used to called a Rest Day, but it is far from it..! The climb from Namche Bazaar up to Everest View Hotel is steep and difficult. Nearly all of the team commented how hard it was at this altitude. But our climb was worth it, with Everest poking through the clouds every so often and sending many cameras into a frenzy of activity.
We ended up getting back to Namche at 1.30pm and headed straight for the local bakery for lunch and a coffee. Very cosy. (and yes, they do know how to make a good coffee...)

Headaches are still present amongst some of the team, and there are now a few upset tummies making life a little more challenging for some.
Others are keen and ready to go higher tomorrow.

Our lodge at Namche is very nice and warms up quickly when the dining room wood heater lights up. Last night, our cheif guide Mingma, and 4 of our Porters returned at dinner time with quite a bit of local brew consumed..!! They had each of the team up and dancing in no time. A very ammusing sight. In the middle of the Himalayas, and 13 Aussies dancing away to local Nepalese music. Needless to say that 10min of dancing at 3500mts results in loss of breath and overheating.

Our average go-to-bed time each night on the trek thus far has been 8.30pm. Yes a little embarrassing, but the thoughts of our cosy minus10 sleeping bags, as well as the trekking efforts throughout the day get the better of us..! Yet we still feel tired. The effects of some difficult trekking no doubt.

Ok, it's time I made my way back to the lodge before it gets dark and the temp drops to zero.
Wish us the best for tomorrows climb, and especially for those who aren't quite feeling 100%.

Please God (or Davo), tell me one of those upset tummies belongs to Didi

Geez Ray, that's a bit harsh but if you get your wish, I can see the funny side.

Hi Dave,
Everyone in IT is keeping up with the blog, but we are surprised that there is so little mention of Sammy. How is he holding up?

He's going ok thus far Brendan. He had a headache yesterday but is feeling better now. He's still worried about his pace on the "ups", although I'm trying to encourage and convince him that he is doing fine. Trek gets harder from tomorrow, so we will all have to start encouraging one another. Teamwork kicks in from here. He is keeping us all VERY amused. So glad he is here.

Hope everyone is feeling much better this morning! I was reading your blog DG thinking how similar it sounds like life in the UK, freezing cold and in bed by 8:30!!! And on that note night night, keep safe and well and post some Everest pics soon please xx

Look after each other as you trek on today. Hoping the blood cells are up and the tummy bugs are manageable. Cant wait to hear and see more. Walk safe; the view's as good whether you go fast or slow.

He's a quite achiever Sue. Doesn't say much, just puts his head down and gets the job done. He trekked strongly yesterday on what was a difficult and steep section.

Hi Dave. I hope today has gone well and everyone has acclimatised. Hey, how is courty? Is she feeling better? Is she still with the group? I'm thinking if her.

The climb to the EVH adds a new meaning to the word "rest", well done guys. Not sure that I envy you for the day ahead of you.
good luck to you all

Still here in Namche at the bakery, snowing here this morning, so presume will be where you guys are. Hope you are all still going strong. We start down tomorrow with a porter who does not speak English, have organised with the guy at the bakery to translate what we want. Missing you all, see you in Lukla.

Hi John G. It is Ryan that was crook and not you? Punishment for not doing enough trekking before you went! Hope you all get to enjoy the trip. You are all nuts, but I admire you for doing it. Andy K.

For Trekkers families and followers - there is a good account of the trek in today's Sunday Herald Sun - in the Escape lift out.
As a veteran - I can tell you it is not too bad an account (but to take 16 days - slack)
