Well, where does one start?

Firstly, the good news is that 1hr ago, all 11 of us stood on Kalar Pattar.

Unfortunately, our reward for effort was an Everest summit hidden in cloud and a windshear of minus 20 at 40 knots..!!

We tried to huddle into a small corner of the summit but this wasn't sufficient to protect us, and for those who had been there waiting for 1/2hr for the remainder of the team, this was becoming dangerous..!!

The decision was made to get off the summit quickly and get back down to Gorak Shep. The views were still brilliant, despite our brief time up there.

We now have a 5hr return to Perishe. All tired but well, and all VERY proud of their achievement this morning.

Will add a photo later, although iPhone was failing up there so hope we have one.

..and so you should be proud!
Great effort - that last climb is a monster and to battle against that winds through it all - well I can just imagine that and it ain't pretty.
You feel a bit different after mounting KP.
Now - back to Lukla for an Everest Lager or ten, and Sammy - you can feast till you are content - with a clear conscience.

And Gaully - pass on my best to Mingma, maybe he will do a card trick for you.

Thanks Ray. Mingma tried his trick on Courtney, and got it wrong..!!
Hasn't done another card trick since!!!!
He's been a ripper mate.

Well done Dave, to you and Team 2014 on your achievements to date. Interested to hear from John (Basher) as to his comparing Federation peak (Tassie) and this trek. Haven't heard from Paulene and Des for a few days. Hope they are enjoying the sights of Nepal.

Disregard my comment on Paulene and Des in previous blog. I had not read all the blogs from day before. Obviously they don't have a stomach bug if they are going to The Curry House.

Hi Paulene and Des. Make sure you visit the Shanker Hotel in Kathmandu while you are there. It is another world.

Paulene. I'm missing you....
Kathmandu is a love/hate thing with people. I'm so glad that you love it..!! I can't understand how some people don't connect with it..!!

Thanks so much Sue. My words to Rhys as he stepped onto KP yesterday "look at you...way out of your comfort zone, and look where you are now".
I was personally wrapt to see him step up onto the top. He's done well.

6 months & a lot of blood, sweat, tears, beer, red wine, sparkling shiraz, Jim Beam & Baileys (have I missed any) in the making, well done to all of you. Don't think however that you can rest on your laurels, still 65 kms in 3 days to go before the celebrations can begin.

Congrats Dave, John & the rest of the team. Great effort & once again a pat on the back to you Dave. Shame about the conditions which prevented more time to soak up everyone's achievements & admire the surroundings. Take care on return trek.

Thanks Anne. Yes not the perfect day to be on KP, but Everest is only part of the incredible panorama. I just wished we had have been able to stay there a little while to enjoy it..! Extreme conditions!

Thanks all. We are all right now at Tengboche awaiting lunch. I have just read out aloud your responses to the team. Laughs and smiles allround.
We are pushing through to Namche today (3-4hrs) away in light snow. Temp is currently around minus 3, but given the effort of yesterday, none of the team are complaining.

I'll put some more photos up when I'm back in Kat. Wifi and computer access has been a major challenge this trip.

I am guessing you are now back down to the warmth! of Paradise Lodge in Lukla and have had a few frothies. Just to let you know, Dave, that it would be worth you reading the Smart Traveller warnings for Bangkok and passing this onto your team.
