Hi everyone. We're at Lukla airport awaiting our plane back to Kathmandu. It's been a big 3 days. We have had no wifi due to weather. The snow has made the 3 day return from GS very difficult. The normal 8hr trek days have been closer to 10-11hrs. We were forced to follow a single narrow man made snow track through the snow for two of the days. If someone came the other way, we had to stand off to the side in sometimes waist deep snow..!! If a yak came the other way, well.......
And to make things worse, the heavy snow damaged chimneys, which resulted in no heater in our Namche lodge..!! Not good given we all had wet boots and socks..!!
Regardless, the team have trekked strongly despite their spirits being down from missing out on KP. They're a strong bunch. And the heavy snow has made the whole area look absolutely splendid. The mountains and valleys have never looked better.
We had our normal visit and dinner at Mingma's house last night on the way up to Lukla. His wife Neema put on a lovely dinner of monos washed down with a few raskis. Always a highlight.
We have heard about the Turkish Airlines incident at Kathmandu, so it will be interesting to see what it looks like when we arrive their later.
I have read all your responses from my last post a few days ago. (I'm still responding to them). I have to admit that your overwhelming support and encouragement almost brought a tear to my eye. (Ok, I admit I actually had a tear..!!). Thanks always.
