Pictured. The boys (minus James) at the Kathmandu Guest House. This is the "before" photo. The "after" photo (not being published) had some "interesting" shaves and haircuts...!!
Hi all. We are back in Kat. We got out of Lukla yesterday, but as always with a touch of stress..! We were booked on "3rd flight". The morning in Lukla was absolutely beautiful, but Kat was closed due fog. It was still closed at 9.45am. Any of you who know Lukla will agree that if you are 3rd flight, and the 1st flight has not yet left at 9.45, a quick estimation suggests you may not be flying until 1pm, long after Lukla normally closes down (due cloud and/or wind). It was with great delight when the announcement suddenly came over "Tara 3......Tara 3". To the sound of grumbles of those holding a ticket with "Tara 1", we boarded our plane and set off to Kat.

We landed in Kat to see the Turkish Airlines plane still sitting crashed by the side of the runway. With all international flights on hold, Kathmandu was filled with frustrated tourists unable to leave..! The impact on the airport being closed for 3 days has been huge..!

Our first stop? Pumpernickels Bakery of course. Ham & salad roll and a banana smoothy. How good...!! Then teturn our hired gear and put some laundry in. Dinner at the Everest Steak House capped off a good day back in the norm.

Given we have lost a post trek day (from the extra day spent on the trek due snow) only James has decided to go down to Pokhara. The remainder of us are going to relax around Kat before our departure on Wed. A few massages, some more site seeing and yes.....more Pumpernickles..!

Everyone in the team is boasting weight loss ranging from 4 to 7kg. Yippee..!

What a dodgy looking bunch!!!! Considering what you've been through, surprisingly, you don't look too weathered. Enjoy the R & R of Kathmandu and be reminded that in a months time when you're all back home and resumed normalities, what you would give to be back in the simple life of the mighty Himalayas. Some of my Annapurna crew have already asked me "Were the steps really that hard as what they seemed at the time"?

Didi. The photo is VERY complimentary..! I can assure you there was some sun damage on one or two poor soles. (Note most are wearing glasses!!
LOL re the Annapurna team comments! Funny how easy the treks become months AFTER completing them..!! I put it down to mind tricks. "It doesn't hurt now, so it couldn't have hurt then". Best to remain wise and respectful.

Sun damage on one or two soles? Did you hang them by the ankles for playing up?

That 4 to 7 Kg weight loss is going to disappear faster than the snow on Kalla Pattar!

Already put one of those kgs back on Brian...!!!
Thanks for spelling hint.
The thought of that snow melting on KP stings a little.!! I think we are all hoping it remains closed for 6 months..!

Hey David, where did the bloke with the Grand Canyon West blue t-shirt come from? From the looks of the growth on that face, he looks like he was wondering around for an extra week before he tagged on to your bunch for the flight back.

(Hi namesake! : )

Love the t-shirt Des. I wanted one but Dave did not have any that would fit over my gut. Get lost in Kat. It is worth it.

As another adventure is nearing completion and your wife is safely back home wihtout too much damage, you can sleep easy. Hats off to you again Dave - although a huge disappointment not reaching KP, at least you have the team safe! Enjoy your days at Kat.

Think you're missing out not going to Pokhara but then again it is an 2 extra flight involving multiple take offs & landings???

I think the temptation to just relax in a sun drenched KGH garden was too much to ignore mate.
