Everest Base Camp. Tue 10/3. What have we been doing?

We've had some relaxing days in Kat. Some have chosen to hang around the sun drenched gardens of the Guest House and read (temp - 25deg plus), while others have walked to some far reaches of the inner city. We have also adopted an afternoon activity of setting out and exploring all those little dark alleyways, stairways and gloomy passageways that everyone walks past around Thamel (this activity started by Greg B a few years back). We've been so surprised where some of these lead to. From fascinating little restaurants that most never know exist (one had only two tables and four chairs) to groovy little rooftop bars. Some would initially appear not to have seen a customer in weeks! There is so much more to Kathmandu than what initially meets the eye. (A great idea for a book "Hidden Kathmandu").

We've had some nice evenings eating great food in several of the eateries around Thamal. Always a good dose of laughter.

We haven't heard from James in Pokhara, and hope that he turns up later today. Being our "mystery man" you just never know what to expect from him!!

We leave Nepal for Thailand tomorrow. Despite most of the backlog from the crash and airport closure last week now being cleared, we've been encouraged to get out to the airport early.

Great reading your comments.

25 degrees & sunny sounds great. We found the coldest beer at Jatra restaurant, just halfway down JP School Rd. And they have happy hour between 3 & 5 I think.

Exploring those little laneways, away from the taxi's & bikes sounds like an adventure in it self. Have you tried the food in those little restaurants?

Good luck with the flight tomorrow.

We certainly tried some of the rooftop bars Veals, but haven't had a meal. The little Momo's restaurant with the two small tables was very tempting. Would have made for a great photo..!!!

How wonderful to be able to rest after that big adventure - and to be warm and dry again! So pleased you are all safe and well.

Certainly been nice and warm Jo. Caroline and Blair have been occasionally observed claiming their personal bit of grass in the lovely rear garden of KGH and laying out for a read/nap/both.!!

Davos back alley tours just doesn't have the same ring to it but glad to see you have continued the tradition. Sounds like you have uncovered some new & interesting places, love the photo!!!!

Back street trekking was one of Des and My favourite pastime last year.....as to the photo you never see very many starving dogs, I think they have stealing meat down to a fine art.. Looking forward to catching up at the airport Friday night!!!

Bill. We would pick a section of Thamel and aim to explore every single alleyway or stairwell, regardless of how dark or uninhabitated. Some looked downright uninviting.!!! Great way to kill an afternoon hour or two.

Paulene. We will try to ensure Des gets some sleep on the way home so that he arrives anger free. Regretfully, we have seen his "dark side" once or twice in the last 48hrs...!!

What ...a "dry ginger" moment and he promised he would be good. Can't wait to see everyone and listen to your stories!!!
