Everest Base Camp. Tue 3/3. We're back... It's been tough

Hi everyone. We have arrived at Gorak Shep....but only just!!! We have been "smashed" with weather. We left Dingboche on Sunday and immediately encountered heavy snow. Fortunately we had good protective gear and so stayed dry and warm while trekking (as opposed to many others who didn't). We arrived at Lobouche (4,900mts) around 2pm just in time for the snow to get heavier. It didn't let off during the night and ALL of the next day. Result? We were standard in Lobouche for the day.!!

We played 6hrs of Uno and several of us read a book in their sleeping bags in the common room. It was a long day. And there was zero internet connections at all to update anyone.

This morning we awoke to more overcast conditions and snow that was now waist deep!! We watched a few attempt to head up to Gorak Shep only to turn back a few hours later. After some long awaited sunny breaks, we had a meeting amongst us and decided to have a go. It was difficult trying to find the track, but we have now finally arrived at GS and are now planning Kalar Pattar in the morning. (Thanks for the favourable forecast Brian).

The team were shattered yesterday at the thought of abandoning KP and heading down. We watched several trekkers give it away due weather, but not this mob. I can't mention enough how tough and determined they have been. So impressed, and I'm hoping their efforts are rewarded in the morning.

I've noted several responses from my previous post and will try to answer some of them shortly. Love your support.

Thanks Veals. This has been one of the tougher EBCs I've done!! Weather and snow has been massive, but I think we're over the worst now.

Hi Nic. Just told him. He's happy. Given how sick he was a few days ago, he's killing it now. He can't wait to show off his new body.!!!!

Good work team! And a super big thank you to my most awesome friend (in so many ways) Mrs Caroline Rundle - it was so lovely to come home and find flowers from you when I know you are a zillion miles away!! Stay safe and warm and keep trekking!!!! We are going to have so much to catch up on!! Lots of love and hugs, Nicola P.S. They are predicting 29 degrees for our walk on Friday but you will probably be swearing at me for even mentioning that.

Hi Didi. Yep that's Lobouche in the background. The only way we got to GS today was following the steps of others. Walk of the track, and we are up to our waists. Hardest EBC I've done. Long, long day yesterday in Lob'..!!

Just looked at weather for Gorak Shep tomorrow. A beautiful sunny day with a top temp of Minus 12. Hopefully someone has made a track for you up to KP.

I thought you might have snuck back to one of the Thai beaches and were hanging out there. Are you sure that picture is not one of the "emergency " supply that you carry?

It looks like you are in for a clear morning with some cloud in the afternoon. Wear your windproofs, the wind is going to pick up and it's going to be cold.

I think a bowl of cement for breakfast in the morning, and all harden up. I've never heard so much whinging.
Seriously, well done.

Amazing photo, will no doubt be a slow trip back. Hopefully the cloud will have lifted so you can experience the amazing scenery that you missed on the way up.

Every trip is different and this sounds as though it is certainly ticking that box! Is this still your idea of fun and a good time?? Gotta take the bad with the good so I'm with John - eat some concrete & soldier on - you know you can do it & no doubt by the time you read this post your efforts would have been rewarded.
