Fri 19th Feb. Safe arrival into Kathmandu.

We have arrived safely into Nepal. The view of the mighty Himalaya as we descended into Kat was incredible. Temperature upon arrival was a splendid 27deg.
We checked in to the Kathmandu Guest House around 2pm and walked straight down to Durbar Square. The damage from last years earthquake was extensive. While some of the temples looked untouched, others were reduced to mounds of rubble.!
We then had a birthday dinner for Des at a nearby restaurant.
Tomorrow we finalise our gear and equipment before having a leisurely day on Sunday
We are still due to fly into Lukla and commence our trekking Monday.

Where's Kumari these days? What did you think of the changes to the Guest House? Did it take you a while to remember where things used to be......sorry, so many questions.

Sue. Kamari is in the same building. We saw her yesterday (all 8 seconds of her). Durbar Sqaure was as damaged as I expected it to be. Temples and palace buildings either collapsed, or with significant cracks, or extensively braced and scaffolded. Our friend Toya took us on the tour.
I've got no probs with the new Guest House. New garden, bar and eating ereas are fine.

David good luck to you and the others, looking forward to keeping up with the trip via the blog, I expect the detail to be as descriptive as Sue's was.

Probably a little less descriptive, James.. Just a quick update on last night's footy scores Dave- Freo 14goals 6, Tigers 4goals 6. I know it is only a practice match Dave but....

You bring me back to my memories and feel sad for those of you who no longer can see the real Durbar Square. Nevertheless I hope you all enjoy the experience. May you all enjoy a great trek.
PS David, Mum is cooking tea for Neville tonight and I am invited - Good that she has something to do. I believe she nearly severed a finger yesterday.
