Departure Lukla

A night out with our guide Prakash.
There is no sleep in regardless of whether planes are flying or not. The fact is, you need to be ready by 6am just in case. They want you sitting in the dining room of the lodge, packed, eaten breakfast and ready to go.

This morning seemed a little De Jar Vue of yesterday morning. The only difference was Lukla had beautiful blue sky and no wind. The fact that Lukla was beautiful doesn't mean planes will fly as Kathmandu could still be fogged it. That wasn't the case this morning and at approximately
7.40am the siren sounded. This indicates the first lot of flights had left Kathmandu. We were booked on Sita Air along with only a handful of others. The majority were flying Tara air. 40 minutes later we hear the roar of the first plane as its under full brakes.......Tara air. Bugga. 3 minutes later the roar of another plane.....Tara air. And not 3 minutes after that and surely a Sita Air???? Nope Tara Air, then a Cargo plane. We stood at the window and waved goodbye to the three Tara Air planes and all of a sudden things went deadly quiet. With grim faces I had in the back of my mind maybe Sita Air won't come if there's only a handful of people......it has happened before. I looked at my guide, he shrugged his shoulders and went to talk to someone behind the desk. Next thing the roar of SITA AIR. Hallelujah. Thank you very much.

Now sitting back in Kathmandu, showered and about to have my first coffee (proper coffee, you know the one, with foam on top made from proper milk and not powdered milk). Boys will be fighting one another to see you gets in for the first shave. We are meeting at 1pm for lunch. No Rice, No Noodles, No Dahl Baht, No Vegie noodle soup, No Momos. Some Wistern food is on the cards I think. We are meeting our guide Prakash for a drink at the guest house later this afternoon and hopefully he can join us for pizza at Fire and Ice a local pizza bar that always has good reviews.

(Goodbye Lukla. About to board our Sita Air plane Kathmandu bound).

Everyone looking fit, clean and VERY satisfied. From the photo, I'm guessing Blair has dropped the most kgs..!!

Hi David, one Gaul is about to leave Nepal & another one is about to return. Just a reminder to pack the book 'Shooting the breeze', then read it & pass on to another traveller while in Nepal.
If you forget you will have to go on a ride with Jimbo up the Great Alpine Road.
Have a great trek & as always I will be looking forward to the blogs.
Apologies to Sue for using your bog. See you in Bairnsdale on the weekend (thats if you have finished the washing, vacuuming, lawns, windows.........)

Sue. You've always said you could easily hop back on the plane to Lukla within an hour of having a Kathmandu shower and washing some clothes!! Still the same?
I'm actually feeling a little "flat" that your trek and climb are over..!! Was great following your progress. Desperate for a photo night..!!

The better Gaul is about to leave. Are you up for a Mount Taylor walk on Saturday Veals. We'll start at 2am. I carry the ladder, harness and crampons to get us up over the fence line.

Thanks Liam, you'll be pleased to know that I brought some new perfume just incase I still smelt bad. I only went 16 days without a shower. It's my new record.

Christine, it's probably not until you get back to routine that you think about Lukla and would kill to be stuck there for 48 hours. It's only frustrating at the time.

Yes David, I've had by shower fix and clean clothes fix, so would be more than happy to turn around and head back up. In fact, tell jimby I'm not coming home and send your group over. Happy to take them up. I'll just hang in Kat for another month or two.

Well done Sue, Blair and David. It sounds and looks veeeeery challenging. Brian just said to me to ask if this is the next planned trek for Sue or Dave. ? He is very interested. I'll stick to ABC for now . Lol!!!

Michelle Blair said Brian hated the cold of Kalar Patar. Island Peak is colder again. Island Peak is something you don't take 6 or 8 people up. The more people the harder it is and less chance you have of making it. Basically the more people you have, the slower it takes. They want you up on the summit at around 11am. So it really is an individual thing. But can certainly help out with contacts if he really is keen.
