Thur 1st Feb. The rest day...that's not a rest...

So we wake up today to what is known as a “rest” day. The only rest you get on a rest day is not having to stuff your sleeping bag into it’s compression bag and pack up your room. Everything else is far from a rest day. Oh we also get to eat breakfast half an hour later than normal which means a bit of a sleep in. We like to call it an acclimatization day.
Namche sits at 3440 mt. Today we had a steep climb out of Namche up to Everest View Hotel at 3880mt. We then come back down to 3440 to sleep at night and the next day we sleep at around 3900 as we have already been at that altitude the day prior, our bodies should acclimatize to it......so that’s what you get up to on a rest day.
Currently we are all sitting in a bakery having well deserved hot coffees, hot chocolates and apple cake. Matt decided to have a rest....after all it is a rest day!!! It’s probably a good thing he didn’t come to the bakery because as I’ve mentioned earlier he does like to eat. I’m scared he won’t fit into his yellow pants if he keeps eating like he does. Eating as much as he does also has the problem of toilet stops taking a lot longer than normal. Now when you're on a squatter any longer than a couple of minutes your legs start the seize up. I don’t know how he does it for 15 to 20 minutes!!!
Everyone is feeling really good and not suffering headaches which can be common at this altitude. Cross fingers the last of the tummy issues are over and it's smooth sailing or should I say walking from now on.

Hey Sue, perhaps Mark can get a pair of pants that the Nepali toddlers wear. You know with the flap at the back!💩

Commando, I can think of at least 3 from our previous treks who would have loved that little rear flap..!!

Sue. Great photos and how about that weather for your EVH day.
Is there a rather funny irony in the sign on the base of the Tenzing statue?
Upwards and onwards tomorrow team. Unfortunately, it's all hard work from this point on (with no bakery or cappuccino), but the scenery will continue to amaze. Hoping the weather holds out.

Weather has been amazing. Still wearing T-shirt’s in brilliant sunshine. It does mean the trails are very dusty and a nice layer of snow would be good as long as it snows at night and not during the day.

Always find this to be the hardest day of the trek. From memory there us a bakery at Tenghboche.

Love the pics Sue, but how dry is it eh?
2013 we were wading through snow to get to the Everest View, the locals were skiing and walking around Namche was treacherous with ice, amazing how different it is

A bit of snow would be good. Woke up this morning and Namche is dogged in so you never know.

Following your trek with slight (in fact lots) of envy.
Looks like you’re smashing it.
All the best for the next few days
