I’ll eat my words about flying to Lukla. Now normally you get to the airport at 5.30am go through checkin, get the usual pat down, get asked for some of your money they have found whilst doing the pat down, argue with security as to why you’re not going to hand any money over and enter the terminal. It is here you sit and wait and wait and wait. The departure boards always says LUKLA DELAYED. Why? Because 17 seater twin otter pilots need to see the mountains. I won’t argue with that. I’d told the team be prepared to sit.....for a long time. Well not today. Our flight was for 6.45am and at 6.30 they called us to board. We were in the air by 6.40. And by 7.30 we were at Paradise lodge in Lukla having a hot drink. It didn’t seem right and I kind of feel I’ve been ripped off the stress of the waiting game for fog to lift. My hair didn’t have time to turn grey. 20 minutes into the 40 minute flight and poor Josh had turned rather pale and reached for his sick bag. It probably didn’t help that he had a few layers on trying to keep his trek bag under 10kg. A few seats back and Lauren had turned the same shade as Josh. Both happy to have two feet firmly on the ground their color returned and the trek began. An easy walk today to our first night at Tok Tok. Mid afternoon saw a light flurry of snow but only for a short time. The temperature is around zero degrees. |
