Sat 26th Jan. Ascending in the snow to Namche...

27/1/2019

Today we woke to snow. Very heavy dry snow. Obviously no planes flew to Lukla today so again, how lucky were we with yesterday’s flight.
It was slow going with the track covered and just not knowing what was underfoot. One of our first big climbs today. The trail was covered in fresh white powder which is so much nicer than the usual dust. It now sees us sitting at a little over 3400 metres.
We hit the bakery but not a lot of freshly baked goods. Most happy to have two day old stale pastries. We are now sitting around the heater in our lodge. There’s a temperature gauge in the dining room telling us it’s minus 13....inside!!!

Can’t beat Nepal in the snow. Remember waking up to frozen boots in 2015. Hopefully it will ease for the remainder of the trek.

Totally agree Khumbu. Would have the snow and cold any day over dry and dusty..! When the clouds clear in a few days time, the scenery will be breathtaking.

Normally we are covered in dust by now. Not a bit on us.

Well done team. First big climb knocked off. And in challenging conditions as well..! No easy days for the remainder of the trek. Keep at it.

How many Mars bars do they have Margaret. They aren’t short of a snack or two. They reckon the Mars bars are working a treat.

I’m thinking that’s a secret!

Hi Rhondy, Legs and fellow trekkers, looks great over there despite the cold hope you are having a blast. The complete opposite here. Friday reached 46 degrees and some people had no airconditioners working ( couldn’t cope). Great to get the daily reports. Love Leigh, mum and dad Greals.

Hi Leigh, Ma and Pa. Rhonda and Lauren are going really well. It’s cold but we are prepared for that. Glad you are all following us.

Just read all the responses to everyone. They are all sitting around a fire at the moment that will only be going for a couple of hours then it goes out.

Very cold Kim. Surprisingly warm while we are walking but bitterly cold when we stop. Hoping for sunshine tomorrow. It will make a world of difference.

Tima, the difference is you get to go home to a warm house with a hot shower, toilets that flush and aren’t frozen.....oh and clean underwear daily. The Moerenhout’s are doing ok considering.

Tracey, it’s only cold when you stop. Forecast is for sunshine over the next week and that will make a huge difference.
