My 2016 Nepal trek program is still going ahead, despite the recent earthquakes. While the country and in particular the city of Kathmandu commence its rebuild, I am already receiving correspondence from several of my Nepalese contacts that the quick return of tourism is one of the priorities of the country.
Despite the reported destruction and death toll, damage to the main tourist and accommodation areas of Kathmandu, as well as the major trekking routes was minimal. Recent reported landslides were more related to heavy rainfall and were in the regions north west of Kathmandu (not in the Everest region).
While we were not able to get sufficient numbers to run the Annapurna Base Camp Trek again (despite its huge success in January this year), the Everest trek will go ahead, departing Thursday 18th Feb 2016.
The 2016 team has undergone some recent changes with a few having to suddenly cancel but local Sanctuary Lakes residents Anand & Mark taking up their spots. The team number is now a perfect 9.
