The time has come..!!
We completed our official training program this morning. We started back on October 3rd at the 1000 steps and finished up this morning with a leisurely East West Circuit and an easy Flinders Peak at the You Yangs.
During the 4 months, we have enjoyed the popularity and physical benefits of the 1000 Steps, have participated in a challenging but splendid weekend on Mt Hotham and the classic Razorback, have walked the beautiful Macedon upper rim walk, have been put through our paces by Des and Paulene on Mt Buninyong and have conquered most of the popular walking trails of the You Yangs.
We have seen some good friendships formed within the group and all of us have gained a good level of physical fitness.
Well done 2016 team. You've done well.
We have all been inspired by the efforts of Sue, Blair and David on Island Peak in Nepal and several of us have been eagerly following their terrific blog. The 3 of them returned to Australia yesterday (Fri 12th) with incredible stories to tell. I enjoyed almost 2hrs on the phone today talking to Sue and am looking forward to catching up with Blair in the next few days.
Sue reports that Kathmandu and the mighty Himalaya are as splendid as they have always been, despite the tragedy of last year.!! Kathmandu continues to experience the odd minor "rumble", but reports coming back is that earthquake damage is barely noticeable in most areas.
We depart this Thursday. As with previous years, I will endeavour to run a live blog, although with the Everest Base Camp communications tower currently being down, there may be a few days of no communications.!!
